Healing Through Poetry

Poetry has helped many find healing as they explore their grief. In this poetry workshop, Dr. Kuroiwa-Lewis explains the healing nature of peotry and offers examples of how to begin processing grief through poetry.

Nathalie Kuroiwa-Lewis is an English Professor at Saint Martin’s University. She has a Ph.D. in
rhetoric and composition from the University of Arizona. She is a published poet and her poems
have found homes in periodicals such as Cirque and The Madrona Project. Dr. Kuroiwa-Lewis is a board member of the Olympia Poetry Network and lives in Olympia, Washington. In addition to her poetry writing, Dr. Kuroiwa-Lewis is a scholar of the rhetoric of war and much of her academic work informs her poetry. In her free time, Dr. Kuroiwa-Lewis enjoys hiking, biking, playing acoustic guitar, and writing song lyrics for the guitar.
